Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take my carpet to dry?

Your carpet will dry in about 4 hours, even less in certain situations. We take the time to ensure your carpet will be dry in a reasonable time. Our equipment is regulated so that we don't over wet your carpet or leave a sticky residue behind.

What method of cleaning do you use?

We use the hot water extraction cleaning method that is recommended by most of the largest carpet manufacturers.

What should I do to maintain my carpet?

Regular vacuuming is highly recommended. Make sure to vacuum your carpets, upholstered furniture and drapes at least once a week in order to keep abrasive dust particles down to a minimum. However, remember to ensure maximum removal of all harmful dust, mites and allergens, regular professional cleaning is essential.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

You should have your carpets professionally cleaned once every year for low traffic and twice a year for high traffic homes with children or pets.  With all the rocks and dirt brought in to your home during our snowy winter months it's often a good idea to clean once during the winter and once after mud season.  One thing to keep in mind is that spots are much more likely to come out if handled right away.

Are the steam cleaners that you rent from the grocery store as good as a professional carpet cleaner?

These self-contained steam cleaners do not get nearly as hot, nor do they have the suction power as our truck-mounted systems. Our cleaning system reaches extremely high temperatures, killing off harmful bacteria, mites, mold spores, and fleas, which makes your home a healthier place to live. For every 18 degrees of temperature increase the cleaning solution doubles its effectiveness.

How do I maintain the manufacturer’s warranty on my carpet?

Each manufacturer will have a specific set of requirements. The most common is that you must have your carpets professionally cleaned (by a certified firm that offers hot water extraction or steam cleaning) at least every 18 months. Also, scotch guard must be reapplied after every cleaning as it is meant to wear off. Summit’s Finest Carpet Cleaning and Restoration meets all of the above criteria for maintaining your carpet manufacturer’s warranty.

Should I have carpet protector (scotch guard) applied to my carpets?

Scotchguard is very beneficial to your carpets.  When this protective coating is applied to the carpet fibers, it puts a protective barrier around each fiber. This protective barrier resists moisture. When you do have a spill, it gives you a window of time to get it cleaned up.  Also, the other important way that this product helps you is in the area of wear. Having this protective coating on your carpet helps reduce the wear and abrasion caused by sand in the carpet. This protects the carpet from excessive matting, and in turn will cause your carpet to perform better and last longer.  Carpet manufacturers recommend you apply scotch guard after every professional carpet clean.

Is it Possible that spots or stains will come back after cleaning?

If a spot returned a day or so after cleaning, it may have been due to the nature of the spot. Deep stains may to surface if they are in the backing of the carpet. For this reason, we recommend you call us right away to remove any spots. Contact us for more information on stain removal.

What are the advantages of steam cleaning versus chemically dry cleaned?

Steam cleaning is both a surface cleaner and a deep penetrating cleaner. It can remove surface stains and also deep clean down into the carpet pad where bacteria and other stains can linger.  Hot water extraction is the only method classified as “deep cleaning”. This method is also called steam cleaning due to the heat of the water used to clean your carpet. Hot water extraction rejuvenates your carpet fibers and brings them back to life. Nearly all carpet manufacturers and fiber producers recommend hot water extraction for cleaning carpets.

How often should I have my upholstery cleaned?

Upholstery should be cleaned once every 12 months as a part of regular maintenance. Upholstery that shows visible dirt or soiling should be cleaned to avoid dirt building up and causing staining.

Will steam cleaning my carpets get the padding or sub-floor wet, causing mold, mildew or damage to the carpeting?

When done by an experienced professional, steam cleaning is the safest/best cleaning method and will not cause any damage to the carpet or padding.  Hot water extraction or steam clearing is the cleaning system which is most consistently recommended by manufacturers of residential carpet. Portable units, rentals, and store-bought cleaning sprays or solutions are all known for causing over wetting issues which can lead to more stains, mold, or mildew.
